Interview preparation

Preparation for interviews is essential - what is more, It always pays off. Never fall into the trap of feeling that your personality will carry you through - It won't. Your obvious lack of preparation will send the interviewer a very clear signal of a lack of motivation or interest in the post.

Put yourself in the shoes of the interviewer. What skills and qualities would you be looking for if you were in their position?

How will you demonstrate that you have these skills and qualities?

Prepare yourself for the interview. Be aware of the types of questions you will be asked and consider what generally your response might be.

Ensure you know where and when you will be interviewed and who will be interviewing you. Make certain you have researched the company and its' products. This is much easier these days as the vast majority of companies have comprehensive websites. If possible, look at competitor companies as well to ensure you are well briefed on the marketplace.

Consider preparing a presentation on yourself and your qualities, including evidence of your achievements to date presented in a brief and professional manner. It is generally viewed very positively.

Be clear on the reasons for seeking the job and be positive about both the company and the role you are applying to. Use the interview as an opportunity to demonstrate you know about the company and prepare some relevant and probing questions for the Interviewer.

Show how this career move fits into your long term career plan. You do not have to be definite about where you will be in say, 5 years time, but you should be aware of the options open to you.

It is vital that you can clearly demonstrate what you can contribute to both the company and more specifically, to the role you are applying for.
